Advancing the Gospel

Several years ago, Pastor Blair Butterfield was at a pastors’ conference in Lima, Peru where he bumped into a man wearing a ‘Rocky Mountain Calvary Chapel’ t-shirt. That man was Pastor Darwin Torres from Cusco, Peru (the t-shirt was actually from the Calvary Chapel in Colorado)!

It was a divine appointment, clearly orchestrated by the Lord, and it has led to the development of a close friendship between Pastor Blair and Pastor Darwin, and a close ministry partnership between RMCC and Pastor Darwin’s church, Calvary La Semilla in Cusco, Peru.

Very interestingly, and at about that same time, a family at RMCC who had been running a Spanish Internet radio station from their home in Calgary felt led to give that radio station to the people in Peru. The hardware and station content were donated to the church in Cusco and named Calvary La Semilla radio with the goal being to broadcast sound Bible teaching in Spanish via the Internet.

RMCC has had the privilege of supporting this work. Below are a few highlights presented as the 5W’s of this ministry.

Who: Calvary La Semilla is an Internet radio station broadcasting from Cusco, Peru. Originally the station was operated and owned by a family from RMCC. They generously donated the hardware and station to our brothers and sisters in Cusco. As part of our ministry in Peru, RMCC has had the privilege of supporting this work.

What: A 24-hour Spanish radio station that provides strong biblical teaching and Christian worship music.

When: Daily teachings from teachers such as Chuck Smith, Greg Laurie, and David Guzik as well as many of our South American Calvary Chapel pastors.

Where: This ministry reaches around the world via the Internet.

Why: There is a great need in Peru, and beyond, for strong, solid biblical teaching and encouragement.

Here is a recent and very exciting update from Pastor Darwin about the dramatic impact of this ministry:

“My brother Fernando is 43 years old. His life was full of addictions (alcohol) but two months ago he decided to listen to the online radio sermons during his work. A week ago, he gave his life to Christ and then was baptized. We are grateful to God for his life and also for the radio tool that is reaching different people.”

Praise God for how His Word is going out and changing lives, all around the world. Praise God for the support from our church family at RMCC for the work in Peru.

For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything (1 Thessalonians 1:8).

Calvary La Semilla Radio is available on iTunes and Google Play.

(Thank you to Pastor Blair Butterfield for providing the content for this post.)
