We teach foundational lifestyle strategies that are rooted in the Word of God and give practical guidance in areas such as nutrition, exercise and healthy, biblical thinking. Participants support each other through prayer and encouragement while learning how to optimize their mental wellness so they can focus on their ultimate purpose — being full, participating members of the body of Christ.

This two-hour seminar is held monthly to offer education and support on wellness topics that affect everyone. We seek to reduce stigma around mental and emotional issues and allow for authentic sharing to foster a culture of people living life together. Sessions are structured in a classroom-format with the first hour consisting of a formal presentation and a second hour of roundtable discussion, questions and answers and group interaction. Topics have included everything from healthy smartphone use to a believer’s perspective on stress. This seminar is open to anyone interested. It is offered at no cost and held at RMCC on the first Monday evening of each month from October to May.
This 10-week workshop is about learning and applying fundamental principles of mental wellness within a biblical context. While most of the elements are clinically proven and recommended within the mental health medical system, tying them all together within the context of Christian peer support is revolutionary.
Mood Mastery is open to anyone interested in attending, with a specific focus on those suffering with depression or high levels of anxiety. Those who are at high risk for depression either by genetic predisposition, life circumstances or occupational factors – such as being in a serving profession – can benefit from prevention. It is also an excellent resource for family members of people dealing with mental health or emotional concerns.
While this workshop is not a substitute for medical care or counseling, it has proven effective in helping some manage symptoms associated with depression, including side effects from medication. The workshop runs for 10 weeks in the fall and 10 weeks in the spring, consisting of a weekly, two-hour session. A participant manual containing the core material is included with registration. The cost is $300 for RMCC attendees, with $100 due at registration.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
RMCC is very blessed to offer a peer support program that while still in its early stages is already bearing fruit. Peer to peer support is a concept founded on shared lived experience, 3 mutual respect and the giving and receiving of encouragement and help. In mental health peer support, an individual who has lived experience of a mental health challenge and recovery comes alongside those currently suffering to help support them in their recovery journey. Peer support fills a gap in the system by helping address the impact of mental illness on people’s lives, providing hope and reducing isolation.
Peer supporters are trained to recognize the stages of recovery, helping to address the risks and needs at each stage. They can provide individualized assistance with tools and practical strategies for reducing negative self-talk, facing fears, using dissatisfaction as an avenue for change and problem solving.
At RMCC peer supporters use these tools within a Biblical context. This means that while specific methods are taught, the over-arching focus is always on an individual’s identity in Christ, the teachings in the Word of God and the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit.
We also offer peer-led groups as part of the Vibrant Life Ministry. For many individuals struggling with depression or anxiety, the thought of joining a group can be overwhelming. Concerns with focusing, completing homework or assigned readin, and sharing about their challenges keep many from participating in bible studies and other group activities. Peer-led groups are facilitated by those who have experienced similar challenges and have been trained to provide an extra measure of understanding and ensure a safe environment.
RMCC peer supporters have participated in the 10 week Mood Mastery course and the four-day Certified Peer Worker training through Prairies to Peaks Consulting Inc. This training is aligned with Peer Support Accreditation and Certification (Canada) [PSAC], endorsed by Canadian Mental Health Association Calgary (CMHA) and has been used and recommended by agencies in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
