Over the summer a new group of students will make the transition into the Youth Group at RMCC. Our Grade 6 teachers and the Calvary Chapel Kids Ministry team have come up with a fun way to encourage and equip their students to help them get the best start on the teenage years possible.

“As they move on into youth we are excited to give each of our Grade 6 students a new teen Bible,” says Lana Morrow, RMCC’s Children’s Ministry Director. “Our hope is that they will continue to learn about God’s amazing love and plan for them as they read, study and personalize their Bibles every day.”

In April each of the students were asked to write a full page essay answering the question, ‘Why is God’s Word important to me?’ Keep reading to see a collection of their amazing and inspiring insights in this post.

A special thank you to our Grade 6 teachers: Tory Nudd, Jason Caldwell, Michel Emond and Cory Guigue.

Why is God’s Word important to me?

Alese … a love story

The Bible is important to me because it teaches me God’s character, that He loves me, and how to live. The most significant part for me is knowing that God loves me. It’s the most important part of His character because knowing that He loves me helps me want to follow Him. There are so many valuable teachings in the Bible like how Jesus willingly died for us so that we could have eternal life through Jesus Christ. The verse that says this is John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Another reason why the Bible is important is because it tells us how much Jesus loves us and cares so deeply for us. One of my favourite verses is 1 Peter 5:7: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” This one is probably my absolute favourite because it says that we can tell Jesus all our worries and problems and He will be with us so that we are not alone.

Amanda … enriching, refreshing and instructive

God’s Word is important to me because it can teach you how to be a better person and kind of sets a barrier for yourself. You hear or read some of these stories and it makes you wonder, am I a real Christian? It symbolizes Jesus in a way that can make you feel enriched in the Holy Spirit or can refresh you. You hear stories that Jesus was born or died for our sins and that’s how you know: God deeply, truly loves me. It makes me think to myself: ‘How can I complain when Jesus went through all of that.’ When you are asked or you need to read the Bible and you just don’t want to, just think: this is for God.

Caleb … reasonable and believable

I will bring you through my thought process on why God’s Word is important to me. Reason one, I can trust the Bible. Having trust in something is one of the biggest things in determining in your mind if something is true or not. The second reason on why the Bible is important to me is because it can speak to us in different ways. An example of that is if one person is doubting that Jesus exists, then the Bible will show them why Jesus is real. And if another person is a firm believer, the Bible will speak to them in a different way. The final reason on why God’s Word is important to me is because it is actually reasonable. It is harder to believe something like a molecule appeared out of nothing and over time turned into all of the earth. I think all of these reasons are valid because the Bible is living and active and God who wrote the Bible can speak to you in many different ways when you read the Bible.

Giulia … the truth and nothing but the truth

God’s Word is important to me because I know that it is a source that contains truth and nothing but the truth. I know that I can go to it when I don’t have anyone to go to. It leads me in the right paths and teaches me the correct ways. In a world where lying is one of the most popular things to do, I know that I can turn to God and His Word for all the answers I need. When I was in doubt, God’s Word was there for me. When I was scared, God’s Word was there for me. When I was worried, God’s Word was there for me. Anyone can seek God’s Word. It was made to be read and stored in the hearts of those who really believe that it is important.

Anna … solid and trustworthy

The Bible is like a storybook, but it brings so many more emotions because all of it is true. It has stories that sometimes don’t seem possible. If you ever doubt what the Bible says, there are many things to help you know it is true. Some of the cities in the Bible are being found today. This gives proof that what we have read, and believed with our whole hearts, is true. Even though God’s Word is so old, science still proves what it says about creation is true no matter what theory evolutionists think of. When things in the Bible are found today, it makes it easy to understand that God really is real.

Ezekiel … comfort in time of need

The reason God’s Word is so important to me is because it allows me to learn and read about how God has done amazing things to people in their lives. One of the biggest and greatest things that He has done for me is how He died on the cross (the ultimate sacrifice) just to forgive our sins. He did that just for us. I know a lot of people who can be very annoying and mean to me, but Jesus died for them even though they can be mean. The Bible is the only book that originally held those kinds of stories in it. There are many more stories in the Bible that help me be a better person. The Bible is also important to me because it holds a verse that I look up to. The verse is, When I am afraid I put my trust in You. Psalm 56:3. I like this verse because when I am afraid I pray to God so He can comfort me. Sometimes I have a nightmare so I pray and put my trust in the Lord so He can comfort me.

Kate … a source of courage

God’s Word tells me about God’s deep never ending love for me. “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13 is one of my all time favorite Bible verses. Whenever I am about to do something I’m really afraid to do, I just keep repeating that verse in my head. It gives me courage knowing that Christ is always with me.

Laurel … a guide for life

The famous song, inspired by Psalm 119:105, Thy Word by Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith reminds me to have God’s Word as a guide for my life, it tells me how to live for Jesus and not for the world. One of my favorite lines in the song is the first phrase, Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105 declares, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” It is important to read God’s Word daily, to gain understanding and knowledge. Proverbs 2:6 tells us, “For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;” God’s Word is the only source of true wisdom and it is like a map for my life. Knowing God’s Word, by reading it, meditating on it, helps me to trust Him so that I can obey Him.

PennyLane … totally dependable

People called missionaries brought the Word of God to many foreign countries such as Robert Jermaine Thomas, Gladys Aylward, Richard Wurmbrand, St. Patrick, and many, many others. They knew that without God’s Word many people would never know who Jesus was and how they could live a life that pleases Him. They were willing to die in order to share God’s Word, a precious treasure, with others. In Proverbs 30:5 it says, “Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.” It says a similar thing in Luke 1:37, “For no word from God will ever fail.” I can depend on the fact that what the Bible says is true. There aren’t many things in this world that are totally dependable, but God’s Word is and God is too. I love that.

Laura … convicting and comforting

The Bible is the true book. It is the book I rely on whenever I need comfort. The Bible helps me calm down and really repent and think on all of the things that I have done wrong. The Bible is everything to me. If I did not have it to lean on and to rely on, I can’t even think of any words to describe how wrong, depressing and just overall sad that would be. I would not be loving, caring, and kind. I am those things because I want to be like Jesus and I only know how He was like because I had the Bible, I read it, and I believe it.

Zoe … inspirational

One of my favourite things about the Bible is that every time I read it I can read about all of the men and women God chose to lead His people. Moses, Joshua, Elijah, Elisha, Esther, and the disciples and so many others. All of them were regular people that God used in a big way. I love reading about all of the miracles that they used to show the people how good God is. It amazes me how Jesus could heal any sickness, injury, and even bring people back to life.

Micah … a beacon of hope

Without the Word of God I would be scared about where I would go when I die. Without His promises I would be scared half to death. I might think that I would go to heaven but then I wouldn’t know if I was right or not. The Bible tells me how to be saved and then gives me confidence in God’s promises. That is why the Bible is important. The Bible shows me who Jesus is, it helps me feel better and it gives me confidence about my salvation. Most of all the Bible gives me hope.
