Proverbs 26

Verse 27, Of you set a trap for others, you will get caught in it yourself. If you roll a boulder down on others, it will crush you instead. The idea here is that man’s evil will eventually recoil upon himself. First of all a pit was dug to catch an enemy and rocks were rolled down a hill to crush an enemy. Those who try to cause others to stumble will fall into their own pit. Those who roll a stone for some kind of a trap, that stone will roll back on him. God will deal with those who wrongly come against you. Psalm 7:15-16 says “He made a pit and dug it out, And has fallen into the ditch which he made. His trouble shall return upon his own head, And his violent dealing shall come down on his own crown.” God has a way of turning the tables on them. This reminds me of a story I heard. Louis the Strong was asked to make chains that would hold the most desperate prisoners during one of the early French wars. He tempered some very fine steel and made chains that were unparalleled for strength. Later on in life Louis himself was found guilty of treason and sent to prison. He was heard to moan, “These are my own chains! If I had known I was forging them for myself, how differently I would have made them!” I am to learn the simply lesson that God is not mocked, what a man sows he will also reap!
