Proverbs 13

Verses 9-10. The testimony of the righteous is like a light. And that light burns brightly in a world that is in darkness. But the wicked offer no hope, no light, just more darkness. Solomon then talks about pride and contention and he says that they go hand-in-hand. Why is that? Because with pride comes the attitude of “Mr. Know-it-all” who is never wrong. Wisdom will listen and pray instead of quarrel. It is Pride which has been the chief cause of misery in every nation and every family since the world began. Other vices may sometimes bring people together; one may find good fellowship and jokes and friendliness among drunken people or unchaste people. But Pride always means enmity – it is enmity. And not only enmity between man and man, but enmity to God.
