550-Million-Year-Old Worm Remnants

I used to work with a guy that restored vintage chevy C-10s.  He would buy them in poor to moderate condition and he would lovingly and slowly, over a series of months, restore these trucks to near mint condition.

The difficulty was finding places that could sell original components, because using replica components to a collector is just not the same. The exception to this was for soft components like the belts, tubes or tires where using replicas was necessary because the originals are not expected to survive five or so decades of use.

Well, this is the same for palaeontologists.  When finding a fossil, it’s expected that the hard shells or bones of an animal survive rather than the soft flesh, especially when dealing with millions or hundreds of millions of years.

What about 550 million years?1 Professor Moczydłowska of Uppsala University, Sweden found the tube casings of the Precambrian seabed worm Sabellidites cambriensis were still soft and flexible.  After a detailed and comprehensive laboratory analysis, the researchers determined that the seabed worm’s remains were still composed of the original organic compounds.  Here is an excerpt from their 2014 paper in the Journal of Paleontology:

“The Sabellidite’s organic body is preserved without permineralization. Minerals have not replicated any part of the soft tissue and the carbonaceous material of the wall is primary, preserving the original layering of the wall, its texture, and fabrics.”2

And

“The tube of S. cambriensis was flexible, as shown by its soft deformation and preservation, and composed of fibers perfect in habit and parallel arranged in sheets, and then sheets in layers.”2

They actually used an electron microscope to show delicate fibres of less than half a thousandth of a millimetre wide preserved intact!

Even in the automotive world we know it’s difficult for soft components to last for decades.  But how is it that evolutionists suspend that rationale when dealing with soft remains of fossils?

The obvious solution is that these fossils are not millions or hundreds of millions of years old.  These findings show evidence of a recent creation consistent with a simple reading of the Bible.
